History of NTDU Americas, INC. (Formerly NBS, Americas)

The beginning:

The process of establishing NBS Americas (NTDU Americas) for the Americas started in 1995/1996 with a goal to unite Nimo Citizens in the United States and Canada.

Consequently, Nimo Family Reunion celebration was organized in New Jersey under the coordination of Dr. Hyacinth Akunne and our Nimo compatriots in affirmation. This was a successful re-unification gathering in New Jersey. Dr. Hyacinth Ezeamii assisted to collate the names of Nimo citizens in North America.  He had been the curator of the famed “Ekwe Nimo” newsletter and was the custodian of the contacts of some Nimo citizens.

In 1998, during our convention in Dallas, Texas, the good citizens of Nimo accepted and reviewed the draft of the constitution which was then formally adopted in 2000.  Hence an incorporated entity (tax exempt 501 C (3)) was formed in the state of Michigan. This became our umbrella organization in the Americas.

NBS Americas Incorporated (NTDU Americas Incorporated) has logged in many successes since then. This includes the approval of several charitable programs presented by Dr. Hyacinth Akunne, that will benefit the people of Nimo (the tax-exempt 501 C (3) organization status was of essence). Another milestone included the general membership body approval of the request by the President, Dr. Hyacinth Akunne, to proceed with the building of Egwegwe Center (to concrete DPC level). This last project was being carried out under the supervision of Chief Peter Atupulazi (Orimiri na Nimo). He was supported by Sir Chike Agbim for the duties of accounting and fiscal responsibilities. Dr. Hyacinth Akunne and Chief Peter Atupulazi opened the project account at ICB Lagos (with the assistance of Mrs. Mbelede).
